La Palapa Food Truck

Overview:

La Palapa is a Mexican restaurant situated on E Carson Street in the Southside. The restaurant also operates a food truck with the same name. I found La Palapa set up at the popular Northside brewery, Allegheny City Brewing. The schedule and location of La Palapa can be found using their mobile app, which also allows you to order ahead for pickup. Food-wise, La Palapa offers a variety of traditional Mexican dishes, including empanadas, quesadillas, tacos, and fresh guacamole. 

The Food:

La Palapa has some of the best guacamole around. It is clearly made fresh daily and comes with the simple ingredients that make for a great guacamole. They use avocados, onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, lime, and cilantro. Also, the container it comes in is pretty big, and you get a decent amount of chips. 

Tacos

For dinner, we had tacos and quesadillas. For both entrees, they offer chicken, ground beef, chorizo, pork, and poblano peppers + potatoes. I had the chicken, chorizo, and peppers with potato quesadillas. The tortilla was crispy and filled with melted cheese and protein. Of the three I had my favorite was the peppers with potato. The peppers were grilled, and the potatoes were mashed to create a contrasting texture.

Service:

The service at the La Palapa food truck was ok. We went during a very busy night at Allegheny City Brewing. So most of the people there also got food at La Palapa. We waited about 20 minutes just to order the food, which was upsetting since there was only one person ahead of us in the line. It seemed like the two people working in the truck were overwhelmed with other orders and got turned around for a little. Once we placed our order, however, the food came out relatively quick. 

Atmosphere:

The truck itself was pretty cool. It was actually a trailer that could be hooked up and towed away. I like how it was conveniently parked in the alleyway behind the brewery.

La Palapa food truck is an interesting and cool Mexican food truck in the Pittsburgh area. They definitely have the best Mexican food in a food truck in the city. All the ingredients they use are clearly fresh and taste amazing. My only complaint was the disorganization when they got busy. However, this happens in many other places, and if you go at a slower time it would not be a problem. Definitely give La Palapa a try if you are looking for a good Mexican food truck in Pittsburgh!
