The Food:

The first dishes ordered during our meal were two sushi rolls. We tried the tuna and avocado rolls. Each one used fresh ingredients, large amounts of tuna and avocado, along with moderately priced for sushi. The tuna roll was $8 and the avocado roll was $6.

We also enjoyed an order of the fresh spring avocado roll. It had lettuce, carrots, purple cabbage, and chopped basil. Wrapped in rice paper, you then dip the whole thing in a homemade hoisin sauce with peanuts.

The two Thai dishes we tried were Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. Both are very similar, with each having veggies and a protein of your choice. The main difference comes down to the noodles used. Pad Thai uses thin rice noodles, while Pad See Ew has thick flat rice noodles. My only complaint with these dishes was that the chicken was tough and overcooked.

Miso Ramen

My dinner at Umai was the miso ramen bowl. It had a hearty miso broth with bok choy, chasu pork, scallion, bean sprouts, a seasoned egg, and classic ramen noodles. I enjoyed the bok choy the most as it gave the dish a hearty crunch mixed with the soft egg and pork.

Service:

I thought the service at Umai Thai and Sushi was a little lacking. Everyone was friendly, including our server and waiter. However, the food took a while to come out. This was mostly due to the place having tons of delivery and takeout orders when we got there. It also took a long time to get our check as we had to ask our waiter for it. This was even though the place was packed, and they usually try to flip tables when a place is busy.

Atmosphere:

Tables

The inside of Umai is very modern. You will find wood-paneled walls, cool Asian-themed artwork, and fancy wooden tables in the dining room. It is also very cozy inside and small, with there only being about 8-10 tables. This is why I think Umai is mainly a takeout place: there just isn't enough room to fit everyone during the dinner rush.

Rating: Good |⭐⭐⭐⭐✩|

Umai Thai and Sushi is a nice addition to Bellevue. In case you were wondering, the previous business, Thai Tamarind, moved further down Lincoln Ave in Bellevue. I like the variety of Asian food they offer, including Thai, wok dishes, sushi, and ramen. My favorite dishes were the ramen and sushi. Each used high-quality ingredients. While the chicken was tough and the service was a bit slow, this is a great place to stop and get takeout or grab a bite for lunch. If you are looking for other Asian restaurants in the area, check out Sushi Tomo, Hong Hot Pot, or Nanban
