Cousin Basils

Overview:

Cousin Basils is an Italian/American restaurant & bar located in Clarington, PA. Here you can enjoy classic Italian dishes like chicken & parm, pizza, and lasagna. Additionally, they have wings, burgers, and steaks. Cousin Basils offers dine-in and takeout, but not delivery. The restaurant is open 11-8 Sunday-Thursday, but closed on Wednesday. Then from 11-9 on Friday and Saturday. 

The Food:

Lasagna

I went with my family twice to Cousin Basils and each time I got something different. During my first meal, I had the lasagna. It had ground meat, ricotta, mozzarella, and marinara. I thought the dish was tasty for the most part. I did notice most of the dish melted together, so it was hard to taste the individual parts. Also, it was a small dish of lasagna for $17. 

Fettuccini Alfredo w/ Shrimp & Broccoli

We also had the fettuccini alfredo and added shrimp and broccoli. I tried some of the pasta and thought it was really good. You could tell they make the alfredo sauce there. 

Chicken Parmesan

On my second visit, I had to go with the classic chicken parmesan. This did not disappoint, as the huge portion of chicken and pasta made me very full. The chicken was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I also really enjoyed the marinara sauce, which tasted sweet and had huge chunks of tomatoes. 

Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie

For dessert on the first visit, I did try the peanut butter chocolate pie, which they make at the restaurant. It was quite tasty and a great end to the meal. 

Service:

Both times at Cousin Basils our waitresses were great. We did have some questions about the menu and they always directed us to the best things to order. 

Atmosphere:

The look of Cousin Basils restaurant is very cool. At the door, you will find large stone walls and pillars, with a massive wooden door leading inside. The interior of the restaurant is also almost entirely made up of wood panels and beams on the roof. It gives the place a cozy cabin vibe.

Cousin Basils restaurant is a great place to stop and get good comfort food if you are in the Cook Forest area. The variety of food they offer makes it easy for everyone to find something to eat. All the things I tried were really good. The only thing I was not crazy about was the lasagna and its portion size. However, the service, atmosphere, and the rest of the food were all solid. Cousin Basils is certainly one of the better restaurants in the Cook Forest area.
