The Food:
Our food at The Monroe was a nice change of pace from the many casual restaurant chains you find everywhere. Here, you can tell everything is made fresh and from scratch. We went on two separate occasions. I had the burger first, and the next time I got the fish dinner. For our starters, I tried the chili first, and the next go around, I got the house salad. My favorite of the two was the homemade chili.

When it came time to eat the burger, I could not believe how big it was. The menu describes the Monroe Burger as being a 3/4 lb patty with grilled mushrooms, onions, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and pickle. I was able to tell that they freshly mix and form the burger patties each day because the burger was super juicy and tender. The toppings made it crisp and hearty. My only issue was trying to finish the thing. I was able to eat it all, but it was a struggle!

On our second visit, I decided to try the fish. It was also a huge portion of 3/4 lbs of cod batter fried and served with fries and coleslaw. It was flaky on the outside and tender on the inside. If you get dinner, they also give you almost a whole loaf of bread and butter to go along with it!

Service:
The waitresses we had on both occasions were very nice. We were taken care of and made sure we had everything we needed.
Atmosphere:
The inside of The Monroe is really something special. It is an atmosphere you really cannot find in many places anymore. I loved the cozy home feel of the place with the old carpeting and wooden accents on the walls. It is refreshing compared to all the boring, sterile decor of most restaurants these days. They also put up some wreaths and other decor for Christmas!
Rating: Excellent |⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐|
My experience both times going to The Monroe was fantastic. You get the old school vibes coming here, and it does not disappoint. Our food was all made well and tasted great. Our servers and waitresses were super friendly and always checked on us. If you are stopping through Butler definitley give this place a try. The first time we went, it got very busy during dinner. They have two small parking lots on the side so try to get a spot there and come early if you go on the weekends! If you are looking for something else in Butler, PA, the only other place I have been to is Compadres Mexican Restaurant.
